Angela Perez Cabrera passed away at Lea Regional Hospital at the age of 90. Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and friend, Angela was born in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico to Tiburcia Huizar Perez and Jesus Perez. After marriage, she lived in Kenedy and Sudan, Texas before settling in Hobbs, where she became a U.S. citizen and resided for over fifty years. Angela was a homemaker until her children were grown then went to work outside the home at the Levi Strauss plant until it closed. She then found another career with the Hobbs School District where she worked as a "Grandma" or teacher's aide for many years, many of them at Jefferson Elementary School. She loved working with children and the children gave her much love in return. Angela was a devout and active member of St. Helena's Catholic Church. She also looked forward to having her children and grandchildren visit her at home where she was always ready to give you a wonderful meal and regularly kept a pot of coffee on the stove. Her cooking and baking were creative talents that came naturally, she rarely used recipes. Due to recent illness, she had spent the last two years at Hobbs Healthcare Center.
Angela was preceded in death by a son, Martin Cabrera and daughter Magdalena Cabrera Masters. Angela had many friends, including her neighbors on Scharbauer Street, who watched out for her and assisted her in many ways. She never met a stranger, only potential new friends. Angela is survived by three daughters and two sons: Mary Lou Archibald of San Antonio, Texas, Margaret Farris of Jal, NM, Rita G. Cabrera of Santa Fe, NM, Daniel Cabrera of Albuquerque, NM, and David Cabrera of San Angelo, Texas, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. We wish to thank the many friends who came to visit Angela, especially during her time at Hobbs Healthcare, it brightened her days tremendously. We also want to thank Hobbs Healthcare for taking care of our beloved mother during her stay there.
