Clara Mae Mackey, of Hobbs, passed into the gates of Heaven on December 29, 2019, in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was born on March, 25, 1955 To William Quarles and Mae Dawson in Roswell, New Mexico. Funeral services for Clara will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ at 3pm. Family and friends are welcome to come pay their respects on Tuesday before the service at Griffin Funeral Home from 12-8pm. The family encourages you to come in the evening and share memories with them from 6-8pm. Those who would like to bring food for the services are welcome to contact the church for availability to drop off.
Throughout Clara’s life she moved around, experiencing life in not only Roswell and California as a child an a older teen. She moved to Hobbs as a young adult and parts of Texas as the Military wife of Ross Lee Mackey Jr, and mother before she came back to the Hobbs area to stay. In 2001 she graduated from the New Mexico Junior College in Cosmetology. Giving her the skills to do hair for friends, family and members of her community. Clara was a accomplished woman, writing and publishing poems, working as a caregiver, and being at home for her children when they were small. Although she is gone from our site now, her family and friends know she will be waiting for them and will keep them in her heart until they meet again.
Preceding her in death are her parents, William Quarles, Mae Dawson and stepfather Roosevelt Dawson, brothers Clyde Burist and William Raymond Quarles Jr, sister Sherry Quarles, son Justin Mackey and daughter Clara M. Mackey.
Left to forever cherish her memory are her remaining children; Shondra Quarles of Dallas, Texas, Julian Mackey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sherice Quarles, Ross L Mackey, Jocelyn DeAnna Mackey, Maycee J. Mackey, Amber N. Sheppard and Lashell Mackey all of Hobbs, New Mexico, sister Regina and brother Johnny Lee Dawson, grandchildren DeAndrea Quarles, Ashtin Hall, Giani Mackey, Willie Jackson Jr, A’Tavious Jackson, Janiyah Jackson, Abigail Mackey, A’Nivea Mackey, Elijah Mackey, Drea Mackey, Ma'Kia L. Sheppard, Aiden M. Sheppard, Adrian Mackey, Ciara Mackey, Shynice Mackey, Desiree Mackey and Michael Mackey.
