Cloyd began working at age 15 at the Frontier Movie Theater as ticket taker and then projectionist. He worked on a "swab" crew for Ick Crane and a miner before becoming the "hoist man" at Kerr-McGee Potash Mines. Following a lengthy stay at the mines, he moved to an Allsup's Convenience Store, ultimately becoming an Assistant Manager. Later, he became a janitor at New Mexico Junior College.

Cloyd's church life began at Rock Chapel Baptist Church. He also attended Immanuel Baptist Church and was proud to become a Deacon at Belvue Baptist Church where he also enjoyed singing. His many hobbies were reading, building airplane models, puzzles (including Sudoku), gardening, cooking, playing with an iPad, and playing pool. Never doing anything halfway, he would read all night long and his gardens were huge and productive. He loved music of a genres and influenced his younger siblings to love music too. He was a devoted son and escorted his mother to family reunions as she kept in close contact with her many siblings and children.
Cloyd attended several Chili Cook-Offs and was a winner! In his youth, he rode a motorcycle with his friends, the Atwood brothers, and traveled with Benny toi the Gulf Coast and enjoyed deep-sea fishing. Recently they spent time watching the races at the Cardinal Speedway. He especially enjoyed his trips to visit his sister in Las Vegas and seeing his favorite shows, the Mac King Magician Show (many times) and the Tony Orlando Show.
The family requests that contributions in Cloyd's memory be made to Alzheimers.org or to a charity of your choice.
