Dominga Tavarez

Dominga Cortez Tavarez, 84, of Hobbs, NM, passed away on March 27, 2022, surrounded by those who love her. A memorial service in her honor will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 10am at Griffin Funeral Home.

Dominga Tavarez was born in Artesia, NM to Andres and Marcela Cortez on April 18,1937. She married Jesse Tavarez on December 29, 1957, in Artesia, NM. She was involved in the Catholic church activities and choir. She was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe. She enjoyed her time as a voting election judge. Her passion was singing, laughing, and spending time with family and her closest girlfriends, aka her Comadres.

Dominga is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse; her parents, Andres and Marcela Cortez; brother, Raymond Cortez; sister, Delfina Sanchez.

Dominga is survived by her daughter, Linda and her husband, Neil Burleson of Ruidoso; her son, Steven Tavarez of Hobbs; her daughter, Irma and her wife Alicia Tavarez of Hobbs; and her daughter, Christine and her husband, Brian Dart of Atlanta, GA; her brother, Andres, Jr and his wife, Maria Cortez of Hobbs; her brother, Ruben and his wife, Helen Cortez of Hobbs; her grandchildren, Jerry Tavarez, Ishii Tavarez, Michelle Tavarez, Steven Tavarez, Jr., and Marcela Tavarez; Nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family of Dominga Tavarez wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of Kindred Hospice including Nancy, Melissa, and Amy. We would also love to extend our thanks to the friends that have loved and supported Dominga and Jesse throughout all these years.
