Doris Anita McDonald passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 with her loving family at her side. She was 77 years old. Doris was born in Lubbock, Texas on December 16, 1939 to Howard and Helen Click. She married the love of her life, Dale McDonald on December 3, 1955. They were married for 55 years prior to Dale's death in 2011.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 11, 2017 in Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Doris was a loving and gracious wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother and as all of her family would attest, a fantastic cook. After the birth of her three children Mike, Kay and Randall, Doris began a promising career as a vocalist with Dale at her side on the drums. Later, Doris gave up a recording contract in order to follow the calling of her life, raising her children, a decision she never regretted. In the early 1970's, Dale bought the first of three paint stores and the family moved to Big Spring. With Dale working long hours to make the paint store a success, Doris not only managed their household but also did the store's books and managed the store while Dale was out making sales calls. After many years in Big Spring, Dale opened a second store in Hobbs, NM and the family moved to Hobbs to support that store. Soon thereafter, Doris' first grandson, Jamie was born, making her a Memaw, perhaps her favorite name to be called. For a number of years, Dale and Doris raised Jamie as their own. Doris dearly loved spending time with her family; her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. This was especially true during the Christmas holiday when Doris would decorate anything and everything in sight. She was well known for her love, her generosity, her flamboyant style, and her love for everything blingy. Her passing will leave a huge hole in the lives of many. Doris is survived by her three children; Michael McDonald and wife, Ronda of Elizabeth, Colorado; Kay McDonald of Hobbs, New Mexico and Randall McDonald and wife, Rene of Tyler, Texas. Five grandchildren: James Dale McDonald, II and wife, Beth Anne, of Fredericksburg, Texas; Parker McDonald and wife, Hali of Cullman, Alabama; Jennifer McDonald of Polson, Montana; Michael Dale McDonald, II of Odessa, Texas and Morgan Hester and husband, Caleb of Harrison, Arkansas. Seven great grandchildren: Amber, Hailey and Karla McDonald, all of Polson, Montana; Kate, Natalie and David McDonald, all of Fredericksburg, Texas and Henli Pearl McDonald of Cullman, Alabama. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her son Rickie Dale McDonald, her father Howard Click and her mother Helen Baker.
