Dorothea Dot Hale, passed away, Thursday, August 1, 2013 in Hobbs. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Joshua Hale and Reverend Darren Skinner, officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM 7:00 PM, Monday, August 5th at Griffin Funeral Home.
Dot was born on February 6, 1929 in Atoka, Oklahoma to Robert and Carrie Cates. She was one of seven siblings. Dot attended school in Atoka, Oklahoma, Hockaday Girls Finishing School in Dallas, Texas and the University of Oklahoma where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education. She married Norman Hale on June 7, 1953 and they celebrated over 60 years of wonderful marriage. Dot taught school in Portales, Lubbock and Hobbs and was a secretary and office manager for Hale, Duncan Co., P.C., Certified Public Accountants, retiring in 2001.
Dot was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the President of the Womens Society of Christian Service, Hobbs Women Civic Club, Yucca Garden Club, Rose Club and other clubs that she enjoyed. She was a gourmet cook and loved to have dinner parties, enjoyed people and having guests in her home. Dorothea was the guiding person for her son, Wayne, to have the best education and was extremely proud of him attending Rice University.
Survivors include her husband, Norman, of the home son, Wayne Hale and his wife, Belinda of Friendswood, TX sister, Becky Coggins of Portales, NM grandson, Joshua Hale and wife, Christie of Nacogdoches, TX granddaughter, Elissa Hale of Ft. Collins, CO and great grandchildren, Benjamin, Eleanor, Samuel and Timothy of Nacogdoches, TX. She was called Dot by her many friends and will be so missed by all of us.
