Elvie Elva Ree Funk, 96, passed away in Midland, TX on September 22, 2013 of congestive heart failure. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 26, 2013 in Prairie Haven Memorial Park, with her son, Jack Gothard, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:008:00 pm, Wednesday the 25th at Griffin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Funk was born on May 25, 1917 in Jefferson County, Oklahoma to Lee and Susie Bennett. Elvie attended Union Hills Public Schools in Jefferson County, Oklahoma. She married Calvin Gothard in Ringling, Oklahoma on October 6, 1933 and to this union was born three children, Jack, Bettie and Fred. Calvin passed away on December 26, 1956. On June 16, 1962 she married George Funk and they owned Yucca Trailer Sales in Hobbs until his death on October 6, 1997. She was a homemaker all of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church in Seminole, TX. Elvie moved to Midland in May of 2012 to live with her son, Jack. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, George Bennett and sister, Mae Champlain.
Survivors include her son, Jack Gothard and wife, Mickey of Midland, TX daughter, Bettie Hancock and Levi Struss of Hobbs son, Fred Gothard and wife, Lavonne of Lubbock, TX 8 grandchildren numerous great grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.
