Geneva Wrinkle passed away at her home in Hobbs, NM on March 15, 2020. Geneva was born on November 5, 1919 in Dixon Missouri to Clint and Effie Jones. She married James Ralph Wrinkle in 1938, they resided in Lebanon MO and had two children Carolyn Sue and John R. Together, Geneva and Ralph moved to Hobbs NM in 1955, joining Taylor Memorial Baptist Church and remaining faithful members until the end. While Ralph spent the first fifteen years working for the Hobbs Newsun, Geneva perfected the art of homemaking; sewing, baking and taking care of her family. During the 70’s and 80’s Geneva took her well-honed skills and became the matron in the Lea county jail where her husband served as Sheriff and Magistrate judge. They were both very active in the community and their church. She enjoyed campaigning, home making and sweets. Ralph passed away at their family home in Hobbs 1999 where Geneva remained independent, self-sufficient and in good health until her passing. Geneva is preceded in death by her husband James Ralph Wrinkle, sister Eva May Osborn, Brother Bert Jones, Son in law Conrad Austin, great grandson Lane Austin. Geneva is survived by daughter Carolyn Austin (Phillipsburg, MO) son John R Wrinkle and wife Berna (Roswell NM) grandsons Craig Austin (Lebanon MO) Chris Austin (Springfield MO), Justin Wrinkle (Carlsbad NM) granddaughter Julie Wrinkle (Alamogordo NM). Great grandchildren Garrett Austin (Oklahoma) Logan Austin (Lebanon MO), Maddysen Austin (Lebanon, MO) and Morgan Scriven (Springfield MO) and great-great granddaughters Addilee Austin and Emmalee Conner (Lebanon, MO).
A funeral service in her honor will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 1pm at Griffin Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to come sign the register and pay respects from 9am-1pm at Griffin Funeral Home, and to join the family at the cemetery after the service for the graveside committal. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Boy’s Ranch in Portales, NM.
Please be aware that due to the Governors press release on 3/18/2020 that no more then 10 people can gather at places of business, we at Griffin Funeral Home ask that as you pay your respects you keep this in mind. Those who are sick or at a higher risk are encouraged to send condolences online, via phone calls or by sending cards to those who are mourning the loss of this wonderful woman.
