George Bridges, 57, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 in Hobbs. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015, 11:00 AM (CST) in Loop Cemetery in Loop, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.
George was born on July 11, 1958 in Iraan, Texas to William "Bill" and Jocie "Jo" Bridges. The little family lived in the neighboring town of McCamey where they shared their lives with a very special set of great-grandparents "Popa and Momma", great-aunt and uncle, and cousins. He was an early riser and was on his Popa's doorstep every morning by sun-up for "baby" coffee and toast with honey-butter. In 1966 he received a devastating blow when he learned the family was being transferred. He would have to leave his precious Popa to move to Midland. While in Midland, George accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at Alamo Heights Baptist Church. A short 4 months later, the family was transferred on to Hobbs where, for the most part, he spent the remainder of his life. After graduating Hobbs High School, he attended New Mexico Junior College. George married the love of his life, Mary Lynn Sherfick on April 25, 1980. They had 4 beautiful children and celebrated over 35 wonderful years of marriage. George was a jack of all trades; woodworker, carpenter, engineer and mechanic. He and his father customized vans and pickups for Dowell Chemical to be used as onsite mobile-office workstations. The oilfield paid the bills as he worked in many various positions throughout his career. He was an avid fisherman and motorcycle enthusiast. He especially enjoyed his fishing adventures in Bahia de Kino at the Sea of Cortez. He gave his family the gift of being a wonderful son, brother, husband and father. George was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Jane Bridges and his older brother, William B. Bridges, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn Bridges; son, Benjamin Cody Bridges; daughters, Sara Kate Bridges-Balcom and Gabrielle Bridges; parents, William and Jocie Bridges; sister, Kathleen Bridges-Taylor (husband, Terry W. Taylor, their children, Chad and Tiffany) and grandchildren, Jacob Tyler Bridges, Austin James Bridges and Justin Oliver Bridges.
