Gertrude L. Zeigler, 89, of Hobbs, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 in Hobbs. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 4, 2015 at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Chapel. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.
Gertrude was born on December 3, 1925 in Okemah, OK to Quash and Ethel Johnson. She was the granddaughter of W.R. "Dick" Shaver the famous first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal in Boley, OK. Boley was located in the Creek Nation of the Indian Territory. Gertrude loved canning and quilting. Gospel music is all she would listen to and was very partial to the Gaither's. She was a member of the Lamb of God Word of Life Church. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her only child, Ardell Zeigler in 2013; sisters, Willie Bell Gillian, Rhoda Lue Brooks and Louise Johnson and brothers, Lemmeth Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Eli Johnson and John Henry Johnson.
Survivors include her brother, Billy Johnson (Mary) of Hobbs; aunt, Dorothy Mosely of Seaside, CA and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
