Jack Hardy Miller was born July 26, 1936, to Byran and Lacine Miller in Houston, Texas. Jack went home on November 30, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas.
Jack grew up in South Texas Valley with his nine brothers and sisters. He started working at the age of fourteen picking cotton and oranges. This experience inspired him to do something else and that he did. Jack became a diesel mechanic. At the age of 21 Jack married the love of his life Carolyn Gay Irwin in Weslaco, Texas on August 20, 1957. Jack and Carolyn went on to have three wonderful children, John, Ronnie, and Donna. They eventually made their way to Hobbs where Jack worked for Rust Tractor as a diesel mechanic. He was the most requested mechanic by far. He was knowledgeable and the hardest worker you would meet. After Jack retired, he did not sit still though he opened his own diesel repair shop JC Equipment (Jack & Carolyn). Even when Jack was not working, he was tinkering at home fixing things, there was no reason to throw something out, it just needed a repair. He would keep Carolyn’s honey-do list on track and if there was anyone that needed help, he could provide he would not hesitate to pitch in. He would give his time and talent to family, neighbors, and complete strangers. When he was not making repairs, he was busy in the yard making it beautiful and taking care of his lovely wife’s roses for her, this was a labor of love he kept them fed, pruned, and when it was time, the roses were picked and put in a vase for Carolyn.
Jack was more than just a work horse, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family without fail. He was always there when they needed him. He took care of Carolyn with all his might to the end. He always made sure his kids were loved and supported, and his grandkids never went without anything they needed. Jack spent most of his time working, tinkering, and with his beloved family but he enjoyed listening to country music, especially George Strait, his favorite! Jack loved animals and always had dogs, and cats. He took care of them above and beyond; he was just such a loving caregiver. If you knew Jack, you loved him, he was a wonderful man. The nurses at the home he was at in the end loved him, he was always fixing things that needed repaired. They decided that he needed a small tool kit and bought him one to help in his repairs there.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Byran and Lacine Miller, wife Carolyn Gay Miller, son Ronnie, sisters Willadean and Helen, brothers Truman, Robert, and Donnie.
Left to treasure Jacks memories are his son John Miller, daughter Donna (Paul) Navarrete, grandchildren Stacy (Robert) Maurer, Justin Miller, Kevin Kegel, Andrea (Nathan) Proctor, Christopher (Phylicia) Polacek, Denise Miller, Stephanie (Robert) Rodriguez, and Jason (Yadira) Miller, 12 great grandchildren and, 1 great-great grandchild.
