Jose Chavez

Jose Chavez, of Hobbs, passed away on December 30, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on March 19, 1954 in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico to Felipe Chavez and Benedita Martinez, one of 8 children. A visitation for Jose will be held Monday January 11, 2021 at Griffin Funeral Home from 10am-2pm with a service to start at 2. Please be advised that due to the governor’s mandates there is a limited capacity at the funeral home and masks are required to be worn at all times.

Jose loved soccer, and for several years coached the children’s team the Tigers. He was also a devoted man of God and family man, working as a pastor for the Spanish Church of God. Jose was blessed in his life with a two great loves, after the passing of his first wife, Emma, he married again to Elidia with whom he spent the last several years of his life.

Preceding him in passing are his parents, his first wife Emma Chavez, daughter Rebecca Chavez and siblings Maria E Soriano and Lupe Chavez.

Left to treasure his memory are his remaining children, Daniel Chavez, Teresa (Mauricio) Cervantes, Fernando (Gladys) Chavez, Analidia Chavez and Jose M. Chavez, grandchildren Jose Daniel Misael Chavez, Briana (James) Chavez, Anthony (Mikaela) Cervantes, Jessica Cervantes, Cesar Cervantes, Isai Chavez, Isak Chavez, Mia Chavez, Ivan Chavez and Giovani Chavez, as well as 5 great grandchildren and siblings Juan Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Olga Chavez, Patricia Martinez, Araceli Chavez and Martina Martinez.
