Leota Faye Burns, 86, of Hobbs, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 in Hobbs. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Darren Skinner, officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM7:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.
Leota was born on August 27, 1928 in Morrilton, Arkansas to A.J. and Goldie Poteet. She married J.J. Burns in Socorro, NM and they celebrated over 50 wonderful years of marriage until his death in 2009. Leota loved the Southwest she enjoyed wearing southwest jewelry and painting many Southwest landscapes. She also enjoyed crafts and going to the Senior Center. Leota was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and always prayed for her country, church, friends and family. She was the perfect example of generosity and gratitude. Leota was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Zanola Kerby, niece, Sherri Ramzel and great nephew, Chad Robbins.
Survivors include her sister, Wanda Ramzel aunt, Cybil Franks, cousin, Donald Ainsworth and wife, Carolyn nieces, Barbara Robbins and husband, Fred of Colorado and Janet Pennington of Oklahoma nephews, Richard Kerby, Raymond Kerby and Kelly Ramzel great nieces, Lexi Wright, Kaitlynn Wright, Karissa Wright, Michelle Bratton and Melissa Wezalis and great nephew, Charles Culp, IV.
