Maria Cano

Maria Soledad Cano, 85, of Hobbs, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm, Friday, September 2, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Jose Segura, celebrant. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 8:30 am-7:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.

Maria was born on February 10, 1931 in Hebbronville, Texas to Tomas and Mercedes Cano. She traveled throughout the United States. Maria embroidered, crocheted and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially during the holidays. She loved taking care of her rose bushes and fruit trees, but her true love was being with her family. Maria was a devoted Catholic and read her Bible faithfully every day. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Pete Gonzalez; daughter, Lupita Gonzalez; brothers, Manuel Cano and Tomas Cano and sister, Josefina Cano.

Survivors include her children, Licha Rocha (Joe Rocha), Maria Garcia, Johnny Gonzalez (Linda Gonzalez), Micaela Piedra, Lupe Garcia (Raul Garcia), Josie Cano, Raymond Cano; sisters, Carmen Rodriguez and Gloria Rangel; 18 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
