Maria Montez

Maria Montez, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022 in Hobbs, New Mexico.  She was born on June 21st, 1942, in Santa Rosalia, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Fernando Serna & Maria Luisa Mendoza.

Maria is preceded in passing by her parents, Fernando Serna and Maria Luisa Mendoza; her husband of 50 plus years, Juan Montez; their son, Fernando Montes; & three unborn children.

Maria is remembered for the love she had for her family, the passion she had for her church & her love for the outdoors. Maria had a big heart and loved & cared for everyone she met. Most of all she loved her grandbabies & although at times she could seem a bit reserved, any time spent with her one on one while tending to her flowers, listening to her favorite Spanish music, or shopping; was time that she treasured above all else.

Maria’s memory lives on with her siblings, Remedios Serna, Cruz Serna, and Ismael Montez; & in the hearts of her children & their families, Carlos and Maria Isabell Montes Sr, Raul Montez and Lupe Maese, Albert Montes and Juana Martinez, Oralia and Jamie Navarrette, Manuela Montes, Martina Montes and Ramon Chavez as well as 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family, friends and others who love her.

Visitation will be held at Griffin Funeral Home on Monday, February 7th, 2022 from 11am-7pm, with a Rosary at 6pm.

Funeral Mass for Maria will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at 11am. Interment will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers to serve will be Juan De La Cruz, Jonathon De La Cruz, Limbuth Urias, Carlos Montes Jr., Michael Montes, Issac Navarrette, Michael Molina Jr. & Raul Montes Jr.
