Maria Ponce

Maria Dolores “Lola” Ponce, 78, passed into the arms of angels on December 27,2019 in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 1pm, with burial to follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 30 at Griffin Funeral Home from 3-9pm, with a rosary to be recited at 7pm.

Maria was born on July 1, 1941 to Jesus Manuel and Eva Gamboa in Ejido Juarez Guerrero (El Cajonero), Mexico, one of seven children. She loved her family, and spending time with them was a joy to her. She would check in with her children and grandchildren regularly, calling if she hadn’t heard from them in too long. Maria, together with her husband of over 61 years, Jose, raised her children and was there for all of her many grandchildren. Her large family was her light and would teach them little songs and prayers. Maria was also devout person, saying prayers for her family every morning, and attending mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. No matter where she was going though, she was always well dressed, matching every outfit to a jewelry set. You never saw Maria out in town without looking her best. She knew whether it was to church or playing one of her favorite games of Bingo, she would run into a friend, even if it was a new friend. This wonderful, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother will be dearly missed by all those who knew her, but no one will miss her more than her family.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Monserrate and Hector Gamboa and sister Lilia Guttierrez as well as one grandson Jose Adan Meza.

Those she leaves to remember her are her loving husband, Jose Ponce, children, Robert (Irene) Ponce, Elida (Rigoberto) Meza, Reymundo (Maria) Ponce and Sergio (Virginia “Kina”) Ponce, brothers Octavio Gamboa and Ines Gamboa, sisters Elia Gamboa and Maria Jesus Muro, grandchildren Flor Garcia, Omar Meza, Robert Ponce Jr., Laura Ponce, Mark Ponce, Jeronimo Ponce, Anthony Ponce, Veronica Ponce, Virginia Ponce, Rey Ponce, Giovanna Ponce, Jenny Marquez, Anahi Marquez and Yathzari Ponce. As well as her great-grandchildren Jayvien Meza, Delaney Gacia, D’Lilah Meza and Anthony Meza. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
