Mary Lou Sifford, of Hobbs, was greeted by angels on March 11, 2023. She was born on May 14, 1944, in Hollis, Oklahoma to Floyd and Peggy (Carpenter) Worthley. A graveside service will be held for her on Friday, March 17 at 11:00am with Lavoid Ford officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, from 3-7pm at Griffin Funeral Home.
Mary grew up in Texas until her family moved to Hobbs in 1958. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1963, and a year later met the love of her life. On May 29, 1965, she married Joe Sifford. She ran a daycare in her home for over 10 years, and finally, she fulfilled her dream of being a teacher when she graduated from the University of the Southwest in 1992. She taught kindergarten for 7 years at Will Rogers Elementary School before moving to Whitney, Texas. In 2008, she moved back to Hobbs to be closer to her family.
Over the years, Mary enjoyed spending time with her children, as well as taking care of the children in her daycare, students in her classroom, and foster children that were in her home. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, her dog Nuggets, trimming her rosebushes, crossword puzzles, and a great steak!
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, and sisters, Florene Cook, Claudia Hassen, and Scherrie Eggleton.
She is survived by her children Peggy Steele, Denise (Michael) Sims, Billy (Yvonne) Sifford. Her grandchildren Chisum, Cahill, Kaiden, Jake, and great-grandchild, Sammy. As well as nephew-like a son, Snapper-Travis Eggleton, many other nieces, nephews, her husband’s children-Virgina (Troy) Cox, Jo Clark, Kay (Wayland) Thomas, and other extended family and friends.
