Mildred E. Carter longtime resident of Hobbs passed away Tuesday March 25, 2014 in Hobbs. She was 96 years of age. Mildred was born on October 28, 1917 in Monkstown, TX to Bennett J. and Etta Dee Phillips Caudill.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday March 28, 2014 in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Chidester, officiating. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Hobbs. Visitation will be in Griffin Funeral Home Thursday March 27, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7p.m.
Mildred came to Hobbs with her family, attended school in Hobbs and graduated in 1935. She married Gervaise Beese Carter on July 28, 1937. They made their home in Hobbs and enjoyed travelling in their RV and going on fishing trips. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Beese preceded her in death on March 18, 1997. Mildred retired as a bookkeeper for Doran Chevrolet after 17 years of dedicated service.
Mildred is survived by her son, Benny L. Carter and his wife, Sandy of Levelland, TX 2 grandsons, Don L. Carter and his wife, Shelly of Laredo, TX and Dennis W. Carter and his wife, Desiree of Levelland, TX 1 sister, Gladys Jelinek of Hobbs 8 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 4 sisters. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
