The beloved and cherished Nathan Earl Sanders, 59, of Hobbs, New Mexico was born September 22, 1955 at Lea General Hospital in Hobbs to Lorenzo Jones and Opal Green (Sanders). Nathan grew up in Hobbs and attended Hobbs High School. Afterward, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps (USMC) at the tender age of 18 years. He served his country for four years with the U.S. Marine Corp Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina.
While serving in the Marine Corp, Nathan perfected his culinary skills and became a lead chef in the military Mess Halls. After completing his service with the U.S. Marines, Nathan continued to use his culinary skills at many restaurants including the Cattle Baron in Hobbs.
Nathan loved the Lord and made Jesus Christ his personal savior at an early age. He demonstrated his love for Christ through his baptism at the Scharbauer Street Church of Christ when he was 12 years old. Nathan maintained a steady commitment to the Lord throughout his life and made bible study a priority in his life.
Nathan was affectionately called "Fish" by his friends and he was a quite a runner in Track and Field competitions in high school. Those who knew him will remember him as a kind, gentle person with a quiet spirit and an enormous heart, as he would give anyone in need his last dime. His favorite color was red. He enjoyed all kinds of foods, his favorite past times were watching sports (football and basketball), and he loved spending time playing with his nieces and nephews. Nathan had a passion for art, and he used his talent to draw, make clocks and other crafts with his hands.
Nathan's stepfather and dad, Floyd Green, and his sister Katherine "Kat" Williams preceded him in death. On April 6, 2015, The Lord called Nathan to take his rest and wait with those that long for resurrection morning when God will raise all who rest in Christ from death to life again.
Until then, Nathan leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: his mother, Opal Green; his brother, John Green; his sisters Allison Kelley and Angela Green (in Hobbs, NM); his sisters, Veda Smith and Deidre Green (in Dallas, TX); his sister, D'Borah Green (in San Diego, CA); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
