Patricia Whelchel

Patricia Ann (Pat) Whelchel, 95, of Lovington, New Mexico passed away on March 31, 2019 in Lovington.

Patricia was born to Moses and Anna Glenn on December 15, 1923 in Perry, Iowa and was the second of twelve children. She attended and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School.

Patricia went to nursing school in Florida for two years, working as a welder on warships to help pay her way. After moving back to Perry, she met W.R. (Jim) Whelchel and they were married Thanksgiving Day, 1946. Together, they had eight children.

After moving to Hobbs, she sold Avon for many years and among her other jobs, she worked as a night clerk at the Leawood Motel, was a secretary at St. Helena Catholic Church and eventually worked for and retired from the City of Hobbs at the Motor Vehicle Department.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Whelchel, two sons, Gene Whelchel and Richard Whelchel, her sisters, Mary Arduino, Frances Stebbins, Annarose Stebbins, and Anastasia Glenn, brothers, Charles Glenn, James Glenn, Maurice Glenn, Pat Glenn, John Glenn, and Tom Glenn.

Patricia is survived by her sons, Bill Whelchel and wife Judy of Wheatland, Wyoming and Jack Whelchel and Stephen Whelchel of Des Moines, Iowa; daughters Patti Ann Ancell of Lovington, New Mexico, Anastasia Whelchel of Irving, Texas and Julie Bradley and husband David of Hobbs, New Mexico, and a sister, Ruth Lewis of California. She is also survived by a host of in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Griffin Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 3 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary starting at 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 4th at 10:00 AM at Griffin Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
