Robert Lee Bob Renchler died on July 29, 2014, at Temple, Texas. He was 90 years of age. Services and burial will be held at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Chapel in Hobbs, New Mexico, on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
He was born July 3rd, 1924, in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, the youngest of five children of LeRoy A. and Cora A. Renchler. He has been a resident at Hubbard Creek Lake in Breckenridge, Texas, since 1987, having moved there after retirement from Lllano, Inc., a gas pipeline company in Hobbs, New Mexico, where he had been employed for many years.
He served in the US Navy during World War II, from April, 1943, until November, 1947. After boot camp at Farragut, Idaho, and training at Norman, Oklahoma, he earned the rank of Aviation Machinists Mate. He then served in the Atlantic and Caribbean areas with an antisubmarine patrol unit, stationed at San Juan, Puerto Rico. After the war he served with a squadron giving flight training to cadets of the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, until his discharge from the service in 1947.
He was a member of several coin collectors clubs over the years, a life member of the New Mexico Wildlife Federation, and a member of his hometown Emporia, Kansas, Masonic Lodge continually since 1954. He was an ordained Deacon and Elder of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a brother and sisterinlaw, Fred and Vera Renchler, of Topeka, Kansas a son Ronald Renchler and wife Christy McMannis, and granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Renchler of Eugene, Oregon son Robert Skip Renchler and wife Terry Keim of Hines, Oregon son Robin Rob and wife Michelle Renchler, of Temple, Texas grandson Kelly Koontz of Albuquerque, New Mexico the children of his deceased companion, Patsy and husband Gary King of Norman, Oklahoma Mike and Julia Gallagher of Las Cruces, New Mexico Molly Gallagher of New Orleans, Louisiana the children of each of them and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Elaine Gallagher his parents sisters Audie Renchler, Alma Hurst, and Clara Braswell and by his daughter Terri Koontz.
