Roy Curtis Broom, 92, of Eunice, New Mexico passed away on July 5, 2021. Curtis was born on January 19, 1929, in Gorman, TX. He spent his final days surrounded by his family, whom he spent his life caring for.
Curtis married his sweetheart of 61 years, Gloria Broom, on June 17, 1949. Their lives were filled with their five children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. They spent a large majority of their time together attending all of their children and grandchildren's school activities, which they genuinely loved to do.
Curtis was drafted to serve in the Korean War and served from 1950-1953. While serving, he was an Artillery Officer and thereafter became a proud United States Army Veteran. Upon his arrival home, he worked for Skelly Oil Company, followed by Getty, and finally retired from Chevron/Texaco in 1994. Curtis was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge for 59 years.
Curtis had been a Eunice citizen for over 60 years. His family would describe him as their hero and that he was the best story teller. His grandchildren would convince you that he cooked a delicious batch of biscuits and gravy. His family will miss him dearly and love him more than all the cows in Texas.
Curtis is predeceased by his sweetheart, Gloria Isabel, parents, R.V. and Flossie Mae Broom, sister Verna Mae Kid, and son, Richard Broom. He is survived by his sister, Willie Dean, and by his children James Curtis and Susan Broom of Brownwood, TX, Sharon Kaye and Marshall King of Littlefield, TX, Karen and Fred Ferbrache of Eunice, NM, and Thomas and Secret Broom of Jal, NM. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
