Rubelia Patterson, 90, of Hobbs, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor B.J. Choice, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm- 7:00 pm, Thursday at Griffin Funeral Home.
Rubelia was born on March 24, 1925 in Clarksville, Texas to C. Wright and Willie Mitchell. She worked as a cosmetologist from the early 1950's to the late 1960's and was the owner of M & D's Beauty School. After her retirement from cosmetology, she worked for Kerr-McGee Corporation. Rubelia loved to fish, cook, go to the casino and play pokeno. She had a great sense of humor and always had lots of fun. Rubelia was a caretaker for her mother, her aunt and several nieces and nephews. She was an extremely caring person. Rubelia loved life and all it had to offer. She was one of the founding members of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in 1948 and was the church's first clerk. Rubelia was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Ann Mitchell; sisters, Mattie B. Henderson and Alice Carder; brothers, C.D. Mitchell, Charles Mitchell and C.H. Mitchell.
Survivors include her daughter, Mattie Patterson and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Enjolic Combs and Kenneth Zachary Patterson; sister, Ernestine Hodge and numerous nieces and nephews.
