Stephen Cates

Stephen "Gregg" Cates, 64, of Hobbs, passed away, December 11, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Griffin Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Brewer, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday the 16th at Griffin Funeral Home.

Gregg was born on August 20, 1951 in Hobbs, NM to Derwood and Marjorie Cates. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Gregg worked with the family business, Greenwood House Movers. He loved his family and being with them; he was the "protector" of everyone. Gregg's favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch with his best friend, Senorita Rosie Pita, listening to music and watching the sunsets. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Brent Cates.

Survivors include his sons, Stephen Brent Cates and Daniel Austin Cates; daughter, Christie Ann Cates; sisters, Lyda Moreland and Katie Sanders; and 6 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: United Service Organizations, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077-7677
