Wanda Dianne McCarty

Wanda “Diane” McCarty a longtime resident of Hobbs passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, in Denver City, TX. A visitation is scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday October 2, 2024, to be followed by a funeral to honor her at 11:00 am, both to be held at Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs, NM, with Pastor Doug Crum officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Diane was born to Yulice and Elwanda McCann on June 26, 1951, in Mineral Wells, TX. She was a graduate of Hobbs High School in 1969. Diane was married on January 13, 1971, to the love of her life Clifford “Butch” McCarty, for 53 years. Known to her grandchildren as Mimi, she loved spending time with them boating and riding ATVs at their lake house. Diane also loved painting, ceramics, dirt track racing, and going to car shows where she and Butch won numerous awards for their classic car collection.

Diane was a longtime employee in the Hobbs area banking industry that included Valley Federal Bank and Hobbs Municipal Schools Credit Union. After leaving the banking industry she worked for several family businesses that included Showtime Motorsports, Davis Tool Company, and Jars Inc.

Diane is survived by her husband Butch; son Daniel McCarty and wife Amanda; son Dustin McCarty and wife Briana; sister Annel Lopez and husband David; three grandchildren Aidan McCarty, Liam McCarty, and Dawsyn McCarty; niece Heather Lopez; and her beloved English Bulldog Penny.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents Yulice and Elwanda McCann; in-laws Donald and Elaine McCarty; sister-in-law Paula Morgan, nephew Samuel Creech; and two sons, James, and Michael McCarty.
