Wilbert Fred Johnson was born August 31, 1940, in Tioga, Texas to John Morgan Johnson Jr. and Radie Pearl Jetton Johnson. He entered eternal rest on October 22, 2022, in Roswell, New Mexico.
Fred graduated from Hobbs High School in 1958. After graduation he joined the Air Force and served our country. During this time in the service, he was stationed in France where he served as a base police officer. After his service was complete Fred returned and married Carol Jean Pate on January 18, 1964. They were blessed with three sons Mark, Jeffrey, and Kevin. Fred was in law enforcement and served as the Chief of Police in Eunice for approximately 10 years as well as serving as a Lea County Sheriff’s Deputy. They were members of Monument Baptist Church.
The couple were married for 50 years before Carol’s passing. During their life together they enjoyed family and a close-knit group of friends. Fred loved bingo, fishing, panning for gold, and gardening. During his life he served his family, community, country and Lord.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents John, Radie, and stepdad Guy “Shorty” Williams, his loving wife Carol, two brothers Don Johnson and Cortez Johnson and two sisters Jonnie Johnson, and Margie Johnson.
He is survived by his brother Gerald “Snooks” Johnson, his sons Mark (Sara), Jeffrey (Tracy), Kevin (Stephanie), grandchildren Morgan, Ashley, Guy, Clair, Carissa, and Jillian Johnson, and two great-grandchildren Aspen and Easton.
